WHY PICKING THE RIGHT GETTING READY LOCATION MATTERS?

There are lots of places that can be used for getting ready; however, not all getting ready locations are made equal. There are many locations you can look for to get ready on the day of your wedding. There are also many things that are not considered when picking you’re getting ready location. This blog will discuss a couple of things to consider when looking for a location to get ready on your wedding day.

1.     Find a location close to the venue

When we say location matters we mean that. Odds are that on your wedding day there will be many things that will not happen on time. One way to ease your stress and frustration to have the location where you and your significant other are getting ready close to the ceremony site to allow for quick transit time. If you are already running late, and then you have to drive twenty to thirty minutes to your wedding ceremony location this might present a problem. It is easy to explain away that you will not be running late; however, one thing that we find is that most weddings tend to not happen exactly on time. The timeline that you create is a guide for your wedding day. This is why we always recommend to bake extra time into your timeline to prevent stress and frustration.

2.     Find a location that has a view and that is a photogenic location

There are many locations that you can find to get ready at, but there are also many locations that are not ideal locations for the pictures and film. Odds are you are going to want to have your wedding photographer and wedding cinematographer present during the time that you and your significant other are getting ready to document your day. One thing that is important for wedding photos and wedding films is the location of you getting ready. For example, hotels are convenient and easy to find, but hotels are not always photogenic locations. Hotels almost always have ugly green carpets that not the best locations for your getting ready shots. With the rise of airBNB’s, VRBO, and other vacation rental homes it is easier to find some homey, traditional, rustic, or any other style of getting ready locations that you are searching for. Many venues recently have been updating their getting ready locations to appeal to the photos and film such as The Harper or The Fig House (Links in our blogs on Wedding venues). When your wedding photographer and wedding cinematographer captures all the moments of your wedding day to tell your love story you are going to want some photogenic locations for your getting ready shots.

3.     Find a location lots of windows

Most wedding photographers and wedding videographers will tell you the importance of picking a location that is not super dark, but you should also find a location with plenty of windows for natural light. A location with lots of windows to let in that natural beautiful light cannot be underestimated. While any wedding photographer and wedding cinematographer can add light to help capture all of those moments there is something to be said of photos taken with the perfect natural lighting. Not only can it add some drama to your pictures to give you some stunning photos to share with your friends and family it will also help you wedding photographer and wedding cinematographer to be efficient with their time when capturing you getting ready. If you are a bride, someone already married, or plan soon to be engaged you might already know that it takes more time for the bride to get ready then the groom. Your wedding photographer is going to be working hard to capture all of those moments, so if you help them by making sure your getting ready location has plenty of natural light. This is again another reason why getting ready in a hotel is actually less than ideal, for most hotels have little to no windows and are very tiny. This means that not only will your wedding photographer have to work with a tiny space, but they are going to also have to find what little light there is to work with.

4.     Find a location lots of mirrors

There are many tools to assist your wedding photographer or wedding cinematographer to give you the best wedding photos or wedding film possible. One such tool is by picking a location with a lot of beautiful mirrors. Mirrors not only assists you to get ready easier, but they will allow your wedding photographer and wedding cinematographer to capture some truly stunning & creative photos. There is something about the power of a mirror that transform a simple picture or film into a visually stunning work of art.

5.     Find a location that ideally fits your wedding theme to add to the story told by your pictures and film

This last tip is something that cannot be stated enough. Whether your wedding theme falls under the classical, bohemian, fairytale, garden, glamorous, modern, romantic, or even rustic wedding themes you are going to want a location for your getting ready shots that follows suit. For example, if you are having a garden themed wedding you might not want a rustic looking location as it does not add to the magic and splendor of the love story you are telling. Likewise, if you want a fairytale wedding theme you might for a getting ready location that looks like something out of a story book. Just remember do not stress too much and have fun with it.

This is your wedding day, and you only get married once. You want to make sure that you can enjoy the day and have curated pictures and film that really tell the unique and fun love story of you and your significant other. You are going to want pictures and film that freeze these precious memories in time for you and your significant other to relive over and over for generations.
